Week 18

Dear Parents and Students,
We have completed our first full week for the New Year, and fortunately, the air has been much cleaner this week. and there has been no need to wear masks during recess. Please be advised though, that we will continue to utilise the coloured flags each day, and students should keep some masks available in case of risky levels of air pollution.
In the classroom, we have managed get back into our routines after the enjoying the winter break. In Maths, we began Topic 10, which is dedicated to fractions. We have taken a slow and steady approach to the first few lessons, as we want to be sure that we understand the basics before we go on to learning how to manipulate fractions and mixed numbers. We will begin mixed numbers next week, and the test for Topic 10 will take place next Thursday.
In our Literacy Workshop, we have dedicated much of our time to our Book Promotion project. Literacy Week will take place on the week beginning January 22nd. Our Book Promotion display and oral presentation will be completed and presented at the end of that week. We will continue to work on our promotions throughout next week, along with our regular lessons in grammar, which at the moment are dedicated to verbs.
In Science, we finished our studies of force and motion with an open-book group test. This test was an exercise in collaboration, utilizing research skills, and applying acquired knowledge. Next week, we will begin our study of electricity with a practical lab assignment. Electric Circuit Kits will be available to all students, but if you bring your own, you will be able to keep what you create in class. Please refer toThursday’s blog post for more information regarding the kits.
In Social Studies, we have continued our study of the American Northeast. We will be reviewing the unit throughout next week, before our Unit Test on Friday.
It appears that the weather may be warming up after a cold spell. I hope you all enjoy the weekend, and I will see you all on Monday.
