Week 19

Dear Parents and Students,
This week has been a busy one, including three birthdays. Jasmine’s and Miwa’s tenth birthdays were this week, and Kigen will also turn ten next Friday. We celebrated with pizza and goody bags. The party was a bittersweet one, as we also treated it as a bon voyage for Harry, who will be leaving us at the end of next week to return to Korea.
In Maths this week, we finished Topic 10 with a topic test on Thursday. We have already begun Topic 11, which continues to investigate fractions and how to add and subtract them. This is a very short topic, and we will complete it on Wednesday, with a test to take place on Thursday.
In our Literacy Workshop, we have been working hard on our Book Promotion project. Our Book Promotion display and oral presentation will be one part of a number of special activities we have lined up for Literacy Week. We will have our dress up day on Wednesday, to the theme of Disney characters. Grade 4 will be focusing on Pixar short movies. Unfortunately, we are unable to coordinate a parade this year, but we will still enjoy a colourful school full of Disney characters throughout the day. Caves Bookstore will once again be setting up a stall in the foyer. This will take place on Thursday, and Grade 4C will be visiting the stall between 9:30 and 10:00. Parents are welcome to buy from the stall throughout the day.
In Science, we have been having a lot of fun with electricity. This week, we have learned how to create series circuits, and we are in the midst of building parallel circuits. We will continue to build more complex circuits next week.
In Social Studies, we had a unit test to complete our studies of the American Northeast. Next week, we will begin a new unit focusing on the southeastern states. This unit will introduce new types of landforms, climate, and social changes.
Next week is our final week of the semester. I hope you all get plenty of rest over he weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all next Monday to begin Literacy Week!
