Week 33

Dear Parents and Students,

Week 33 has finished in high spirits, having just returned from an informative and entertaining trip to Green World. A link to a photo album of the day is included at the bottom of this post, and photos will be added as they become available.

Earlier in the week, we were busy in the classroom, as usual. In Maths, we began Topic 17. We reviewed what we know about  surveys and graphs, and then moved on to plotting ordered pairs and reading line graphs. We will continue with Topic 17 next week, with the topic test due to take place next Friday.

In our Literacy Workshop, we have all but completed Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, with just the final two chapters to read on Monday. We will then review the entire story and write a collaborative book review. In Grammar, we have continued our study of pronouns.

We have completed the second Skills Handbook in Science. Next week, we will begin our final unit for the year – Life Science – in which we will be classifying  plants and animals, and learning how different organisms reproduce, make food, and adapt to their environments.

In Social Studies,  we have completed  our studies of the American Midwest, finishing with an open-book test on Thursday. This was postponed from Tuesday, so next week, we will discuss our next Social Studies assignment, which will be a presentation of one of the western regions of the USA.

Throughout next week, we will also be doing some short practice tests in preparation for the upcoming Iowa tests. There is no way to study directly for the tests, but tips on how to best prepare for the tests will be sent home next week. Other important dates are included below, as usual.
