Dear Parents and Students,
Congratulations
to everyone for getting through Iowa week. It can be quite exhausting to
complete so many tests within such a short space of time, but everyone has met
the challenge and you should all be proud of yourselves. While most of our week
has been consumed with the Iowa tests, we did manage to complete some other
work, too.
We
continued our Maths program as usual
this week, although without any assigned homework. Topic 19 returns our
attention to equations and extends our understanding of algebra. We will review
the topic on Tuesday, and our Topic Test will take place on Wednesday.
In
our Literacy Workshop, we watched a video production of Alice
in Wonderland, and discussed the comparisons and contrasts between the show
and the classic novel. We also completed our collaborative book review. Artwork
to compliment the review will be completed next week. Also next week, we will
begin a new writing assignment – Writing
an Opinion. We will follow the writing process over four days, with our
published version to be completed next Friday.
In Science,
we have been categorizing plants and animals, and have been investigating how
plants reproduce and make food. Next week, we will focus on adaptations of
animals and plants, along with characteristics that are inherited.
We
suspended our Social Studies
program this week in order to focus on the Iowa tests. Next week, we will return to preparing and
researching for our Region Projects.
Please
don’t forget that we have our mid-semester break this weekend, and there will
be no school next Monday. Please also note that next Friday, 25th
May, the monthly assembly will begin at 1:10
pm for Grades 3-6. As always, parents and family are welcome, so if you
plan to join us, don’t forget the earlier start.
I
hope you all enjoy the long weekend. See you next Tuesday!
