Week 5

Dear Parents and Students,
This week was only four days long for students, but we managed to pack a great deal of work into those four days.
In Maths,  We reviewed Topic 2 before sitting the topic test on Wednesday. We have already moved on to Topic 3, which focuses on multiplication.
We have been spending most of our Literacy Workshop revising and publishing our Personal Narratives. After publishing, we presented our stories before the class in our first Oralal Presentation for the year. Photos of the presentations can be found via the link below. On Wednesday, we took a break from our narratives, and to match the theme of last week’s story, Grandfather’s Journey, we each tried our hand at writing Haiku poems. We then spent our Art lesson decorating our finished poems.
In Science, we have shifted our attention from slow surface changes on Earth to rapid surface changes. We have focused mainly on volcanoes, but we will investigate some other types of rapid changes next week. Our learning might prove to come in very useful over the next few weeks while reading the global news, as seismologists and volcanologists are certain that volcanoes will erupt in Bali and Vanuatu.
In Social Studies, we merged our studies of natural resources with our activities for Global Awareness Week. We are now much more aware of where our food is coming from and how our choices affect the entire planet. Photos of or activities can also be found via a link at the bottom of this post.
