Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome
back from Spring Break, and thank you to all parents for making the time to
come in and see me this week. Communication is a vital key to your children’s
education, and it was great to be able to discuss the progress and development
of all of the students in 4C.
We
started our week with the Easter Egg Hunt on Monday. We had perfect weather for
the activity, and it was fun for all involved. A link to pictures of the event
can be found at the bottom of this post.
We
began Topic 16 in Maths this week,
and spent the best part of the week studying customary units of Measurement. We shifted our attention to
metric units on Thursday and Friday, and we will continue next week. This topic
is a bit longer than most, so the topic test will not take place until the week
after next.
In
our Literacy Workshop, we have
started reading Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice’s
Adventures in Wonderland. We will continue to read and discuss this story
over the next few weeks. Students are welcome to read ahead at home if you
would like to, but it is not a requirement.
In
our grammar lessons, we focused on the importance of commas, and how a simple
comma can drastically change the meaning of a sentence. A humourous example is
included in the form of a meme at the bottom of this post.
In
Science, we have begun Part 2 of the Skills
Handbook in our Science books. This focuses on scientific procedures and the
importance of collecting accurate and reliable data. It also discusses
technology, and we have had fun speculating on future technology. Next week, we
will focus on the upcoming Science Fair. We will hold in-class presentations on
Thursday and Friday, and then the Science Fair itself will take place on the
following Tuesday, 24th April. Parents and family are welcome to
this event.
Thursday’s
chapter test in Social Studies
suggests that our studies of the American Midwest have been very productive, as
everyone achieved very pleasing results. We will continue our exploration of
the Midwest next week, focusing on what the region is like today.
