Week 31

Dear Parents and Students,
The weather has been fairly mild this week, but we have been busy as usual in Grade 4C. Focus has been mainly on the upcoming Science Fair, but we have had plenty to do in all other subjects.
In Maths this week, we have continued our study of measurements in Topic 16.  We began the week with a review of customary units, then continued with metric units of length and capacity, and then on to mass.  We completed the week studying time, and how to calculate elapsed time. Next week will begin with a lesson about temperature, before we review the entire topic ahead of the Topic Test on Thursday.  We will finish the week in Math with a Benchmark Test focussed on past lessons from Topics 13-16. Please note that there is no need to study for the Benchmark Test, as it is designed to gauge how much students have retained from those topics.
Our Literacy Workshop has been almost completely consumed by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,  but we have managed to spend some time practicing our skills using quotation marks. While reading Alice, we are pausing after each chapter to discuss the story, reflect on the events that take place, and appreciate Carroll’s storytelling craft and style. We will continue reading the story throughout next week.
In Science, we spent the early part of the week preparing for the Science Fair, and we held  our in-class presentations on Thursday and Friday. The whole Science Fair experience has been a great learning process, and we have all developed a finer appreciation of how to be diligent scientists while following the Scientific method. We are all very excited in anticipation of the  Science Fair on Tuesday. We hope to see as many parents as possible at the event.
In Social Studies,  we have continued with our studies of the American Midwest. We will be completing the unit next week, with a minor test to take place the week after.
Next Friday, 27th April, we will be taking our annual school photographs. Please remember to brush your hair that morning!
Links to photo albums of our in-class Science Fair presentations and our morning of pottery design can be found at the bottom of this post.  I hope you all have a restful weekend, and I will see you all on Monday!
