Week 32

Dear Parents and Students,

The main focus of this week has been the Science Fair. Thank you to all parents who were able to come in to visit the fair; your support is always appreciated by students and teachers alike. All of the hard work from the past eight weeks has paid off, as the morning was a great success. A link to photos of the event can be found at the bottom of this post.

In Maths this week, we completed Topic 16, and had a topic test on Thursday. This was followed by a benchmark test Friday. Next week, we will begin Topic 17, in which we will review what we know about surveys and graphs, and then build our skills in plotting ordered pairs.

In our Literacy Workshop, we have continued following Alice's journey through Wonderland, and are due to complete the entire book next week. We have also completed Unit 5 in English grammar. On Friday, we began Unit 6, which is dedicated to pronouns. We will continue with this unit next week.

In addition to the Science Fair, we spent some time this week developing our understanding of the Design Process. We also had some fun on Friday designing and testing our own paper gliders.

In Social Studies,  we are close to completing our studies of the American Midwest, and we will have a simple open-book test early next week. Next Thursday, we will discuss our next Social Studies assignment, which will be a presentation of one of the western regions of the USA.

As you know, next Friday, 4^th May, we will be going on our May Field Trip to Green World. Parents should have received a final notice with details of the schedule and what items to bring. Please let me know as soon as possible if you have not received this notice.

Congratulations to Jasmine, for being awarded with the Hsinchu City Government Outstanding Student Award!

This month the annual Hsinchu government Outstanding Student Awards were given to one child from each of our elementary school classes. Students are selected by their schools based on several criteria including character, extra-curricular involvement and academics. Well done Jasmine!
