Week 11

Dear Parents and Students,
The warm weather has made a return, and it was most timely, as it provided a beautiful day on Wednesday for our field trip. Our trip to Taichung Earthquake Museum was an enjoyable and educational affair, and a great way to look back on what we have learned in Science this year. A link to photos from the trip is included at the bottom of this post.
We only had three regular days of lessons this week, but as usual, we managed to be very productive. We began a new topic in Maths. Topic 6 is a short unit dedicated to algebra, with the topic test to take place next Tuesday. After the test, we will return to our studies of multiplication when we begin Topic 7.
We have spent most of our time in Literacy Workshop drafting our Narrative Stories.  We missed our original aim to publish on Friday, but instead, we will spend an extra day revising our work before publishing on Tuesday, with presentations to take place on Thursday.
In Science, in addition to our field trip, we investigated light energy. We had a lot of fun refracting light with the use of mirrors, water, and prisms. Pictures of our investigations can be found via a link at the end of this post. Next week, we will be investigating thermal energy.
In Social Studies, we have continued our  study of the United States government and economy. Next week, we will be learning about how nations and continents can be divided into different types of regions.
Thank you to all parents for the prompt return of the Parent/Teacher Interview forms. I look forward to meeting all of you next week.
I hope you all enjoy a restful weekend, and I’ll see you all next Monday.
