Dear Parents and Students,
I
hope everyone is coping with this changeable weather. Despite the recent cold,
we have had an enjoyable week in 4C, with one of the highlights being the
International Exposition on Friday. A big thank you to Grades 1, 3, and 5, and
everyone else involved, for all of the hard work and engaging presentations.

In
the classroom, we have been busy as usual. In Maths, we have been studying area
and perimeter. We spent some extra
time becoming familiar with some very important formulas, especially for
finding the area of a triangle. It is very important that we don’t simply
memorise a formula, but understand how
the formula works. We will continue with Topic 14 next week, with the topic
test due to take place next Friday.
In
our Literacy Workshop, we read My Name Is Maria Isabel, and discussed
the importance of communication and compassion. Our next story, The Last Dragon, was set as homework on
Thursday night. Please make sure that you have read the story before Monday
morning. We have also been focusing on punctuation of sentences in our grammar
lessons. Next week, we will turn our attention to capitalization of proper
nouns.
We
have enjoyed some more practical assignments in Science, mostly to do with gathering and
presenting data. Our newly acquired skills will become very useful during our
Science fair research. Some more photos of our lab sessions can be found in the

post.
We
have begun our explorations of the American Midwest in our Social Studies classes. This week, we began looking at the
geography of the region, and next week we will learn about its early history. We
finished the week, of course, with the International Expo.
The
fun will continue next week, which as you all know is Spirit Week. Our themes
for each day are as follows:
Monday: Upside-Down / Inside-Out /
Back-to-Front Day
Tuesday: Crazy Hair / Hat Day
Wednesday: Race Day – 4C students are to wear as much
RED as possible.
Thursday: Fake Injury Day
Friday: St. Patrick’s Day – wear GREEN
As
always, parents and families are welcome to join us for the Race Day
activities, beginning at 1:00pm on Wednesday, at the track behind the school. I
hope to see you all there. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy your weekend,
and I’ll see you on Monday.
