Dear Parents and Students,
Spirit
Week has been a great success! Thank you to all parents who helped your
children to dress up for each theme. There were some very creative costumes
throughout the week, many of which took a great deal of planning and preparation.
Thanks to everyone for the efforts you went o to make the week so much fun.
Thanks also to all parents and family who were able to make it to the Race Day
activities. Your participation and support are always greatly appreciated.
Please check the bottom of this post for a link to photos taken throughout the
week.
While
we have been enjoying the fun of Spirit Week, we have also managed to keep busy
in the classroom. In Maths, we
completed Topic 14, which was all about area and perimeter. Once
again, we spent some extra time focusing on different formulas and how they
work. The topic test took place on Friday. Next week, we will be completing a
short topic on solid shapes, with a test to take place next Friday.
In
our Literacy Workshop, we read The Last
Dragon, and began discussions in our Reading Circles. Due to the extra time
we spent on some of our Math lessons, we didn't complete our discussions of The
Last Dragon, so we will continue our study of this story next week. In
Spelling and Grammar, we have been looking at the conventions of spelling the
sounds, -k, kw-, and -ng, and recognising exceptions to the rules. We have also
been studying the capitalization of proper nouns.
In
Science, we have continued with the Skills
Handbook, and we will review the chapter next week. There will be a very short
test next Thursday, which will be focussed on what we have learned about
collecting data and drawing conclusions..
We
have continued our explorations of the American Midwest in our Social Studies classes. We have been
reading about the early history of the Midwest, and next week we learn about
the Midwest today, with a focus on transportation in the region.
Thanks
again to everyone for making Spirit Week special. We have a 'normal' week next
week. Until then, I hope you all enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you on
Monday.
