Week 28

Dear Parents and Students,
We have had a very full and busy 'regular' week. Next week will be another shorter week, as Thursday is a Professional Development Day, and students are not required at school, and then Friday marks the beginning of the Spring Break.
We completed Topic 15 in Maths this week, but we have postponed the topic test until next week. On Monday, we will spend one more lesson reviewing the topic, an then have the test on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, we will preview Topic 16 – Measurement – and then begin the topic proper after Spring Break..
In our Literacy Workshop, we continued our Reading Circles discussions about The Last Dragon, and some very insightful comments were made in each group. We have also been studying the capitalization and punctuation of abbreviations, along with using commas in a series. In Spelling, we have focused on spelling the soft C and G sounds.
In Science, we have completed Skills Handbook Part I, and had a short test on Thursday. We will use the next three lessons ahead of the break for Science Fair conferences to make sure that our projects are all on track.
We have revisited our studies of the Industrial Revolution in Social Studies. This time, though, we have been learning about Henry Ford's assembly lines, and the various modes of transport that were common during the early development of the American Midwest. We will review Chapter 8 next week, and a minor chapter test will be scheduled for shortly after the break.
Quarter 3 report cards have been sent home. Parents, if you have not received yours, please contact the school.  As there will only be a short message on this blog next Wednesday afternoon, I will take this opportunity to wish you a safe and relaxing Spring Break Vacation. In the meantime, we have three more days of Quarter 3 next week, so I will see you all on Monday!
